4 steps to incredible minimalist mobile photography

Out of all the compositions that are at people’s disposal nowadays. Minimalism is the number one go-to for many Mobile photographers out there. Today we are going to cover this topic with examples of pictures taken by me or my friend on our phones (Pixel 2 Xl and Iphones 6s).

The most popular component of minimalist compositions is negative space. With a lot of big skies and empty room, negative space serves to provide breathing for the audience to absorb vast openness but with a clear direction to a point of interest.

Minimalist photography is not about throwing everything away and having nothing in the frame. Just like the minimalism lifestyle you are taking inventory of what is absolutely essential and important to telling a story. So here are four principles to follow:

1) Is it easy to understand ?

If I look at this picture and I understand what the point of interest is and what the photograph is trying to tell me within few seconds. Then the minimalist composition is correctly achieved.

In a minimalist composition, your eyes should be able to snap right into the point of interest. You should tell what this picture trying to tell right away.

2) 4 elements Max :

Evaluate the scene and choose 4 elements that you want to show. It could be the Color, Objects, Groups of objects (wall, a person, the sand or the sky) and Etc.

In this tyle of Mobile photography. It’s very important to not override the viewers eyes with many things that they don’t need to see.

3) Coordinated Colors :

This is the part when you start to make the photo pop in something that will make the minimalist photo more fetching.

The colors play a huge role in human psyche and what they feel when they look at your photo, is what the define the picture.

4) Textures :

In the picture above you have the sky, the buildings, trees, and Me on the side. You got smooth colors all around, but the textures don’t work. The roughness of the homes doesn’t make you feel like everything is going well together.

So, when you go for minimalist composition make sure, the clouds go well with the sky, the person’s clothes go well with the sand, with backdrop or the foreground. These are things to consider while taking a minimalist photo.

These are the minimalist compositions that I prefer and that I wanted to share with you. This style of photography is great for storytelling. It helps you create a start of a story that you later on match with a great caption on Instagram or blog.
