Strasbourg Christmas capital

Strasbourg, capital of Christmas enjoys an exceptional reputation. Each year, nearly two million visitors flock to the Alsatian capital to discover its wonders. Today I’m going to share with you my experience discovering the city that stole my heart (sorry GF if you are reading this).

Strasbourg’s beauty by night

As soon as night falls, the city is adorned with sublime illuminations which give it a magical dimension. The big Christmas tree in Place Kléber is the most beautiful expression of this. About thirty meters high, wonderfully decorated, it impresses with its presence, its majesty. Symbol of an Alsatian tradition dating back five centuries, it is the ambassador of a city bathed in light.

Why you should add Strasbourg to your bucketlist

                                     The Strasbourg cathedral (Notre dame)

Europe’s sixth largest cathedral, depending on if you speak French: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg or German: Liebfrauenmünster zu Straßburg or more simply, the Strasbourg Cathedral. Today, it is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture. I absolutely fell in love with the tall red doors with brass embellishments.

Everywhere you look, something catches your eye. One of the most unique things though, is the clock in the back. The level of details is insane, and you would spend minutes being mind-blown by the beauty of this masterpiece. The story of the Cathedral does not end here, once I’ve stepped inside, I felt like I was taken back to the past, you feel like every spot you look at, it has a story to tell.
